Quebec City X-C (and possible Downhill) Ski Trip

February 20-24, 2008

This is an informal trip for 6 people who would like to X-C ski at several excellent touring areas in the Quebec City region (about 4 ½ hrs away by car). Downhill areas are near each of these centers as well. Mont Sainte Anne, Camp Mercier, and Duchesnay (location of winter season ice-hotel) are the areas we expect to ski, although QC’s Plains of Abraham are also right outside the hotel doors. 2008 is also the 400th anniversary celebration year of the founding of Quebec City, and the city is planning for a special year of activities. This is not during the Winter Carnival event, so there won’t be crowds.

As an adjunct to a larger Appalachian Mtn Club bus trip, we will stay in downtown Quebec City at the Lowe’s LeConcorde for 4 nights, Wednesday through Saturday. The cost of this is $350 US, including 4 nights room including taxes and fees, a wine and h’or douvres party and luggage handling at the hotel. Except for pre-arranged hotel accommodations in QC (for which advance reservations must be sent to Arnold Nadler, 43 Walter Street, Salem, MA 01970-2440), the rest of the expenses shall be per individual. Carpooling is encouraged. E-mail Donna Leban at lightspd@comcast.net if you are interested (before sending money to Arnold). Reservations are suggested no later than 1month before the trip.

Expect to leave early on Wednesday, with enough time to enjoy dinner and perhaps a little skiing or tobogganing in Quebec City upon arrival. We’ll be returning on Sunday the 24th.

2008 TD Banknorth Craftsbury Marathon 27th Annual Race and Tour

I don't know if anyone has an interest in skiing this, or volunteering as a group, but even for a few individuals, this would be fun. (see link) I've skiied the Craftsbury Citizen Half-marathon once- and on a good day its doable for an experienced skiier, even those that are not very fast. Not something for beginners. The course is long, and a lot hillier than I thought it would be- even for the NE Kingdom.

I think volunteering could actually be as much, or more fun, although if the snow and the weather are good, I'd rather be on skis.

You need to have registrations in before Christmas- it fills up fast. You can list me as a contact for information, but I am not organizing registrations or a volunteer table. If anyone else is interested in organizing a group from the club to volunteer, I think it would be fun.
