February 3-5
The Green Mountain Club’s annual trip to Weisel Cabin in the Adirondacks, near Lake Placid. The Cabin sleeps 16 in 4 bunk rooms and is a modern building with kitchen, showers, mens and womens bathrooms, and a large living space. The nearby ADK Visitors Center provides evening entertainment on Saturday night. Plenty of XC and alpine skiing close by. See the GMC Burlington Section Calendar for more detail, and call Linda Evans at 899-3006 or linda.r.evans@comcast.net to sign up. The weekend cost is quite low, around $60 per person.

February 16-20 Ottawa, Ontario Winterlude Festival.
XC ski and ice skating trip. XC skiing is in Gatineau Provincial Park, which is very close to the city. You can get more information about the festival at www.Ottawafestivals.CA. Ice skating is free on the canals that pass through Ottawa. The ice is resurfaced every night, so it’s a neat experience to be able to skate a distance through the city. An added bonus is that the Gatineau Loppet, a citizen race for everyone who XC skis, is being held on the Saturday of our trip. If you've ever been in a citizen's XC race, you realize that it’s purely a fun experience, and not competitive in the shorter distance categories. The shortest distance is 5K with 10, 15, and then 25 and 50K options for the serious athletes. There are no mountains big enough for downhill skiing near Ottawa. Ottawa is roughly a 4 hr drive from Burlington, going through Montreal, its all highway driving. Reservations are being held (currently in Donna’s name) at the Holiday Inn Express, 111 Cooper Street in Ottawa. This is a convenient downtown location. The cost per night is around $124 for Fri-Sun and $150 for Thursday, plus parking and taxes PER ROOM. Rooms have 2 queen beds and a kitchenette. If you want to share a room, let me know this and I will try to accommodate if possible. It's likely that this hotel will book up quickly during Winterlude, so do not delay. Please call Donna, as you will need to provide a credit card directly with the hotel to book. 5 rooms are reserved, and its first come first served. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. Parking is available for $17 per day at the hotel. Contact: Donna Leban (865-2839)

March 4-6 Joe Dodge Lodge at PINKHAM NOTCH (White Mountains, NH)

Free X-C skiing, snowshoeing and winter hiking are at the doorstep and a free pass to the Great Glen Trails network down the road. Downhill ski at Wildcat, across the street, fee is not included in lodging. BYOB allowed in living room and dining room. Bed linens, quilts and a bath towel are provided. Restrooms are shared with a men’s and women’s restroom on each floor, hot showers. For more information see www.outdoors.org/pinkham. Rooms are held for us until Jan 4. Because of the low group rate extended to us, I'd like to show we are serious about coming as a group, therefore please book as soon as you can.

Rates: Shared bunk rooms: $61.62 per person/per night. Rooms with a double or queen bed: $70.34 per person/per night.

Rate includes NH Lodging Taxes, dinner and breakfast. * 2 and 4 person bunk rooms and double or queen-bed rooms are set aside for us. * For a single room, book a 2-person bunk room, pay $25 surcharge and top bunk will be blocked off. * There are a limited # of double and queen-bed rooms.

Payment and Cancellation Policy: Payment in full is required at the time of registration. Full refund less $25 processing fee for cancellations up to 14 days from date of stay. Full credit on transfers up to 14 days of stay. Inside of 14 days, no refund or transfer. SPACE IS LIMITED. Please call AMC Reservations by January 4, 2012 to confirm space. Reservations received after this date will be on a space available basis.

Instructions for Booking Your Stay: Call the AMC Reservations Line at 603-466-2727 Mon-Sat, 9 am to 5 pm. Tell the Customer Service Representative that want to reserve into Burlington Ski & Outing Club, Group Number 177263. Provide your contact information, food allergy information, vegetarian requests, and roommate's name. Roommate can call in separately with her/his credit card. MasterCard, Visa and American Express accepted.

Any question about the rooms and rates, please contact me (Jean Anderson). You are responsible for naming your own roommate when you make reservation, but I'm happy to keep a list of our members looking for a roommate.

Also, please let me know if you make a reservation so that we will know how many of the rooms set aside for us have been taken. Contact: Jean Anderson jeanoutdoors@aol.com, 657-3540
